GPS maker Dash makes a run at real time real estate drooling shopping.
Imagine: you’re in your car and you see a for sale sign on a house. You’re in a neighborhood you like, and it’s a cute house. There are no fliers left. If you’re packing an iPhone or another web-friendly phone, you might be able to surf the home’s stats then and there. If not, you’re stuck noting the address and looking it up later.
Enter Dash Express GPS. By opening its API to creative programmers, Dash allows mashups of databases other than its own. Gizmodo made a video demonstrating the tool mashed up with Zillow at a recent web conference.
If you had this pretty gadget, you’d be able to do a drive-by price check on these recently sold houses in Rainier Beach.

I remember getting my first library card. On my toes at the eye-level checkout counter I signed my name on my new card–not my best trick at the time. The library was about four long blocks from my house, and I would walk uphill the whole way home clutching a stack of picture books.
Recently I fell in love with the library again. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach, so I pay a lot in late fines. I consider them donations. According to the folks at Seattlest, my fines are not enough to keep the library afloat.
The new neighborhood libraries are incredible. I love the green roof on the Ballard Branch and the seating areas at Northgate and Greenwood. The Broadview Branch opens soon, too.
But my favorite of the neighborhood libraries is the Beacon Hill Branch. (More photos) When we visited recently, we made slo-mo pirouettes in the center of the room, staring at the concave ceiling. I could tell by the look on the librarians’ faces as they navigated around us that it was a common occurrence around there.

Seward Park has a fascinating (and long) history, which has very little to do with foolhardy William Seward, the Secretary of State to Abraham Lincoln who arranged for the purchase of Alaska from Russia.
Formerly known by many other names, the Bailey Peninsula was redesigned into parkland by John Olmstead, of the same Olmstead Brothers who designed Central Park, the U.S. Capitol, and Yosemite Valley. The park has over 100 acres of old growth forest, lakefront, an art studio, hiking and biking trails, and an environmental learning center. Quite a weekend destination, especially for the owners of these newly-purchased properties right nearby.
